About

The Friends of Harting Church is a fundraising charity set up in 1999 to support the Parochial Church Council in meeting its obligation to keep the building in good repair. To date, the charity has contributed £300,000 towards repairs and improvements. In 2015 the Friends set up a sister charity, the Friends of Harting Church Endowment Fund, to receive large donations and legacies with the ambition to build a capital sum that can secure the building’s future for generations to come.
Harting Church is a familiar and much-loved landmark to those who pass between Chichester and Petersfield. Its green copper spire is clearly visible from the top of the Downs, and it occupies a prominent site at the top of the village street. Compared with the many humble downland churches that are its neighbours, it is a substantial and dignified building that is sometimes called the Cathedral of the South Downs, although Alfriston makes a similar claim! It is open every day and visitors are always very welcome.
